Biography
Professor Dr. Helen Benedict Lasimbang is a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and the director of Hospital Universiti Malaysia Sabah (HUMS). She obtained her medical degree and her specialist training in 1998 from University of Malaya. She worked as clinician in public and private sector in Malaysia for 12 years and 9 years respectively before joining the university in 2012. She previously held the position of head of Reproductive health department, deputy dean clinical services, deputy dean postgraduate and research of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UMS before being appointed to this current position in 2018.
Her main field of interest is women’s sexual reproductive health, community empowerment particularly in improving health, happiness, wealth, and reducing alcohol-related harm. She is passionate about transforming the way healthcare is delivered in Sabah especially communities that have difficulties accessing quality healthcare. This is addressed in SMART HUMS concept. To achieve this, one of the projects she is currently implementing is the portable health clinic; delivering healthcare to rural communities of Sabah as part of SMART HUMS concept.
